SARAH T. BERARD, ESQ.

Sarah has dedicated the majority of her career to defending physicians, hospitals, nurses, physician’s assistants, nursing homes, and other health care professionals involved in medical malpractice litigation. In addition to defending malpractice actions, Sarah defends clients involved in premises liability and general liability actions. She has also worked for a national health system as a claims manager, giving her additional insights into the industry that she defends. Sarah has had the opportunity to present at a variety of conferences and seminars on the basics of medical malpractice actions, deposition skills, EHR/EMR concerns, HIPAA, informed consent and guardianship issues.

Sarah also volunteers at Michigan Medicine as a patient-family advisor for several Patient Family Advisory Councils across the adult hospitals. Patient and Family Advisory Councils are partnerships between patients/families and healthcare providers that work to support and deliver patient/family-centered care at Michigan Medicine. Sarah has also volunteered at Michigan Medicine as a patient-family advisor for executive committees, including the University Hospital and Cardiovascular Center Executive Committee (2020-2024) and Chief Clinical Officer Search Committee for Adult Hospitals in 2024. Outside of the professional setting, Sarah enjoys family life with her husband, Jeremy, and their two children.
